WHO WILL CALL US TO PRAYER?

If there were some well-known personality who would call us to prayer there would be some initial response. Forgive me, if Oprah were to call America to prayer, there would probably be would an overwhelming response---for a while.

When man calls man to prayer, you will get some response for a while in the initial stages. However the real call must come from God as it does here in this famous verse of Scripture. There is no greater mandate for prayer found in the Scriptures than here in II Chronicles 7:14.

God must call us to prayer! And that is exactly what is happening here in II Chronicles 7.14 as God has sounded the alarm. Joel 2:1 "Blow a trumpet in Zion and sound an alarm in my holy mountain, let all the inhabitants of the land tremble . . ."

You would think that when God Himself sends out the alarm and the call to prayer that everyone would respond instantly. But not so. In fact, it appears that people are hardly listening in some situations. The problem is not that God is not speaking! He is speaking but are we listening to what the Spirit is saying to the church?

All one has to do is to take even a casual glance across the landscape and you can readily see that America's cup of iniquity is filling rapidly. Genesis 15:16 " . . . for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full." The very activities that brought other previous civilizations to their demise are all presently working in our great nation (and other nations likewise), and seem to be more forceful and severe daily.

Please take another look at this proposition God has made. Look closely. The call is exclusively to God's people. "My people who are called by My name" are the ones to whom God is speaking. That call has been narrowed down to a very small group of people relatively speaking.

So, now that we have isolated the people group to whom the call to prayer has been, let's consider the group to whom the call to prayer has not been given. It is not to the president, the prime minister, the secretary of state, the king/queen/ nor senators or congressman. No.

In our hearts we often think, "If only the senator or congressman or the president/prime minister would humble down and seek God's face. That is exactly what this verse is NOT saying. The call to prayer here is not given to the world, the political systems, the universities nor to the nation! THE CALL IS EXCLUSIVELY TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME.

No legislative body in our nation or president can legislate the healing that we need. There is not enough money to buy it if were able to be purchased. Governments cannot give us revival, and revival only comes through prayer! However, prayer in turn does affect and impact governmental bodies and governmental leaders. GOD'S PEOPLE ARE ALONE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN PRAY THE PRAYERS THAT HEAL THE LAND.

In our area, we are presently hoping to "pepper" the landscape with the signs that you see accompanying this article. It would be our desire for every home of every Christian to place one of these signs in their lawns. These signs will soon be available for purchase from WNOP. Check with local zoning ordinances before you do. Why not have every person in your church place a sign?
